"Lola" - 9" x 12" Watercolor Print

$32.00

“LOLA” is a LIMITED-RUN of digital prints, printed locally from my hand-painted watercolor of my tiny house.

“Lola” means grandmother in Tagalog. The day I officially began my tiny house journey happened to be the same day my Lola Mildred journeyed to the afterlife in her rural hometown in Philippines. In honor of her story and my ancestors who paved the way for my reality, I named my house “Lola”.

ONLY 20 PRINTS AVAILABLE.

10% of all proceeds will be donated to the Filipino Migrant Center whose mission is to educate, organize, and mobilize the low-income and working-class families of the Filipino community in Southern California and address the issues and concerns faced daily.

Dimensions: 9” x 12”

Material: Watercolor printed on semi-gloss photo paper

HERSTORY:

Migrating to the US in the late 1950’s, my Lola Mildred soon married my Lolo Gil in 1959, an elder bachelor from her hometown. They bore two daughters, my mom and aunt. When my mom was 12, my lolo passed away following health complications. Lola raised two young daughters in a new country by herself. She went on to live a long life until she eventually retired and moved back to her hometown, Pototan. Although I didn’t get many years to get to know my lola intimately, her resilience, tenacity, stubbornness, and imperfect trials at motherhood and being a Filipina woman in the US live on through my family.
