Earthseed Constructions: Proposals for Resilient Building Futures

Date: 2025

Description: Design, Construction Documentation and Construction of a 14’ x 13’ community pavilion exploring the materiality of hempcrete and resilient construction technologies.

'Earthseed Constructions' is a prototype pavilion that explores the potentials of resilient, regenerative building materials and methods through the use of hand-packed hempcrete as cladding and accent material. As both an architectural investigation and a material study, the pavilion invites reflection on slowness, care, and craft in construction.

Inspired by the speculative fiction of Octavia E. Butler—specifically Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents—the project draws from themes of resilience, community, and change. These ideas inform both the conceptual framework and formal parti of the pavilion, imagining architecture as a vessel for adaptation and collective growth.

Designed and built by Mariah Hoffman as part of her Master of Architecture thesis at The School of Architecture (TSOA) in Spring 2025, 'Earthseed Constructions' emerges at the intersection of narrative, material experimentation, and architectural praxis, embodying the ethos of slow, intentional making.

Budget: $4,000
